Reading a Lab Grown Diamond Report with Precision

A lab grown diamond report provides information about a particular stone. At Just Brilliant, that information belongs alongside the Maison's D color selection standard and the design of the finished jewel.

The first step is to identify the issuing laboratory and the report format. Laboratories do not all present lab grown diamond assessments in the same way.

Begin with identity

The document should clearly identify the stone as laboratory grown. Its report number, shape, cutting style and measurements help connect the written record to the diamond under consideration.

The report number can be checked through the issuing laboratory's own verification service. Where a laser inscription is present, its relationship to the document can also be examined by an appropriately equipped professional.

An inscription or a copied report image is not, on its own, a complete authentication of an unrelated stone.

Read the characteristics in context

An IGI lab grown diamond report uses the 4Cs framework, alongside identifying information and other details. Color, clarity, carat weight and any applicable cut assessment answer different questions.

For Just Brilliant, D color is a specific selection commitment. It does not replace a clarity assessment or describe the arrangement of the facets.

Measurements are particularly useful when considering how the diamond will appear in a setting. Carat weight records mass, while length and width describe its visible footprint more directly.

Return to the complete jewel

A report is not a review of every aspect of a ring, bracelet or pair of earrings. It does not establish comfort, the quality of a clasp or the relationship between neighboring stones in a design.

The Maison's perspective combines the documented stone with the crafted object. Both deserve attention: the report supports understanding of the material, and the finished jewel reveals how that material has been given form.
