Buying 750 Gold in Baku: The Meaning Behind the Mark

Читать на русском

Inside a ring, almost hidden from view, three small numerals may tell part of its story. The mark 750 describes the gold alloy from which the jewel is made. To understand the finished piece, the conversation continues beyond those numerals, toward its construction, origin and the people who created it.

For clients choosing gold jewelry in Baku, this distinction is useful. Just Brilliant works exclusively in 18K gold, also expressed as 750 fineness. It is the precious metal foundation of every creation, whether its character comes from a diamond, a colored gemstone or the gold itself.

What 750 means

The number expresses gold content in parts per thousand. An alloy of 750 fineness contains 750 parts gold in every thousand, equivalent to 75 percent. The designation 18K describes the same proportion using a scale of 24 parts.

The remaining metals influence the alloy’s color and working properties. White, yellow and rose gold can therefore share the same gold content while presenting different appearances. The shade alone does not establish purity.

A 585 mark describes a different composition, with 58.5 percent gold, commonly associated with 14K. Neither number describes the weight of the jewel or the quality of its gemstones. A ring’s total weight may also include stones and other components, so it should not be confused with the weight of pure gold it contains.

Purity and Italian origin

The description “Italian gold” concerns origin; 750 concerns fineness. One does not prove the other. A piece made outside Italy can also use a 750 alloy.

Italian precious metal marking distinguishes the fineness indication from a maker identification mark. The latter includes an identifying number and provincial abbreviation. When provenance matters to a purchase, the marks should be considered alongside the maker’s information and the documentation supplied with the jewel.

A visible stamp is a starting point for questions, rather than a substitute for verification. An unclear or difficult to locate mark deserves an explanation from the seller. Testing or an appropriate professional assessment may be needed where authenticity is uncertain.

What to examine in the finished jewel

Begin with the piece as it will be worn. Does the ring sit comfortably? Does a clasp open and close as demonstrated? Are the surfaces and edges thoughtfully finished? Ask how a setting holds its stones and what care its particular materials require.

Gold purity alone does not determine durability. The alloy, construction, thickness, stone setting and conditions of wear all contribute. An 18K jewel deserves careful handling, and a fine finish should be protected from abrasive surfaces and unnecessary impact.

For white gold, ask about the surface finish and whether rhodium plating is present. This helps clarify the appearance of the piece and any future maintenance it may require.

For a ring intended for frequent wear, try the chosen width and profile rather than comparing gold purity alone. Our wedding band guide explains these differences. If the jewel contains diamonds, confirm their origin separately from the metal description; our lab grown diamond guide provides background for that discussion.

A clear description to keep

Before completing a purchase, review the written description with your advisor. The metal fineness, identity of the gemstones, natural or laboratory grown origin, and relevant treatment information should be understood. Confirm what reports, receipts and care information accompany the particular creation.

When comparing two jewels, compare like with like. Different stones, construction methods and finishes can create very different objects even when both carry a 750 mark. The mark describes the alloy; the complete jewel reveals the craft.

The Just Brilliant choice

Our commitment to 18K gold belongs to a wider approach to jewelry, bringing precious material together with handmade Italian craftsmanship. In Baku, a consultation at Böyük Qala 24, Icherisheher, offers time to examine those details at a comfortable pace.

Turn the jewel in the light. Look at the inside as well as the face. Ask the questions that allow its description to become clear. Confidence in a beautiful object begins with understanding what it is.
