Carat Weight and Presence: The Diamond on the Hand

A diamond's carat weight is a precise measurement of mass: one carat equals 0.2 grams. It is not a direct measurement of the area the stone presents from above.

For Just Brilliant, that distinction makes proportion central to the selection conversation. A diamond should be considered through its actual dimensions and the jewel it will become.

Weight and visible dimensions

Two diamonds with the same weight can have different lengths, widths and depths. Their cutting styles and proportions determine how that mass is distributed.

An elongated outline may occupy the hand differently from a round one. Even within a single shape, a deeper stone can present a different visible footprint from a shallower stone of similar weight.

A larger spread is not automatically a better cut. The appearance and structural suitability of the complete stone still need consideration.

The setting changes the composition

A narrow band can give a center greater visual independence. A halo enlarges the surrounding outline, while side stones extend the ring across the hand.

These design choices influence presence without changing the center diamond's carat weight. They are especially clear when comparing a restrained solitaire with a more elaborate Just Brilliant composition such as Opulent Grace.

The Maison's D color standard applies to its lab grown diamonds across these designs. Scale remains a separate choice, shaped by the intended silhouette and wearer.

Reading the total correctly

In a jewel with several diamonds, total carat weight combines the stones included in that figure. It should be distinguished from the weight of a single center or, for earrings, the weight of one earring versus the pair.

Clear descriptions make those relationships understandable.

A Just Brilliant creation is judged as a complete object. The carat figure is useful information; the final presence comes from how the diamond's dimensions, the gold and the surrounding details work together.
